Wet algae paste to biodiesel processing, co-locatable with photo bioreactors

We at BioFuelBox encourage every effort towards next generation fuels such as algae. Whereas the food-based biofuels have experienced backlash for negative economic, social and environmental effects, algae has remarkable potential as a fuel. It does not have impact on agriculture, deforestation, water resources, and global markets.

Not only does it have a higher energy density compared to soybeans, algae grows rapidly and removes large amounts of carbon dioxide from the air. It does not require soil (which means less nitrogen oxide is released into the atmosphere), contains no sulfur, and has a high per acre oil yield.

The challenge before algae companies is not in the growing of choice strains of algae, but in cost management and scalability. After the algae is harvested from its growth medium, the it must be converted into oil that can be refined into biodiesel.

Because algae require CO2 (which can be sequestered from nearby plants) and other minor elements (such as Ca, S, Mg, Fe and Mn - which exist in wastewater), photo bioreactors installations are hard pressed to reduce cost after the high expense of their initial installation.

BioFuelBox's "shovel ready" technology directly converts wet algae paste into biodiesel, with a smaller amount of biomass as a byproduct. We offer an owner-operated biodiesel conversion solution to algae producers that:

  • Is co-located with their operations - BioFuelBox's small form factor means it can be placed alongside distributed photo bioreactor installations
  • Reduces transportation costs - No need to truck the oil elsewhere for fuel manufacturing.
  • Reduces fuel production cost and complexity - Our technology collapses oil extraction and biodiesel manufacturing into a single step, and processes that oil into biodiesel quickly.
  • Does not require additional staff or manpower

Our co-locatable form factor is particularly valuable in situations where photo bioreactors are themselves situated at a CO2 source, be it a factory, a plant or cement manufacturer. Additionally, algae producers have the option of fueling their own transportation fleets with the fuel produced on-site.

Take the Next Step

Because BioFuelBox's solution is owner-operated - the benefits of NovoStream technology can lead to overall savings without added manpower, complexity or financial investment. There are no start-up capital costs and no risks to you.
