Whereas legacy methods can, at best, handle some animal fats and yellow grease, the NovoStream process was created to make use of brown grease, waste trap grease, municipal sludge, wastewater scum, lipid content from CSOs/SSOs, and anything up to 100% FFA (free fatty acid) content - even if the waste FOG (fats, oils and greases) are watery and contaminated.

Conversion of aggregated waste greases into biodiesel

BioFuelBox's owner-operated solution is a small footprint micro-refinery that is co-located with aggregated waste. Our plants can be deployed rapidly, allowing partners to quickly realize the benefits of reduced transportation costs and localized fuel production. Our NovoStream process further eliminates the need for diluting high-FFA waste greases with costly virgin oils to reduce FFA concentration for traditional transesterification, and makes pre-processing with caustic acids and chemicals unnecessary.

Although our technology is fully capable of processing animal fats, tallow and waste vegetable oil, BioFuelBox's solution is optimal for municipal and industrial waste streams byproducts which are typically highly contaminated, watery, and have very high FFA levels. Traditional transesterification technologies have often encountered roadblocks processing this material, not only due to limited purification capabilities but because the ceiling for FFA content is only 1-2%. Overcoming these limitations, BioFuelBox's solution can directly process up to 100% FFA and remove sulfur to ensure the resultant fuel is fully ASTM quality for on-road use.
