Environmental Benefits

BioFuelBox combines great environmental practices with strong business decisions to create a company where environmental protection and profit go hand in hand. At BioFuelBox, we believe in increasing efficiency. Waste does not necessarily have to be thrown away. Instead, BioFuelBox can convert it into a renewable fuel to power our infrastructure, reducing emissions and our petroleum dependence.

Here are some of the environmental benefits BioFuelBox provides by transforming waste into fuel:

  • 10,000 metric tons of equivalent CO2 reduction per plant, per year - We take waste greases that normally degrade into CO2 and methane (21x the greenhouse gas potency of CO2) and turn them into an advanced biodiesel that displaces conventional fuels. Biodiesel from waste emits even less CO2 than soy biodiesel. According to the EPA, BioFuelBox biodiesel emits 84% less CO2 than conventional diesel and 78% less CO2 than soy biodiesel per gallon. We are the lowest carbon diesel alternative in America today.
  • Reduced particulate matter and hydrocarbon emissions - Our advanced biodiesel not only emits less CO2 than conventional diesel, it emits significantly less uncombusted material and toxic gas. Unburned hydrocarbons decrease 67%, carbon monoxide decreases 48%, and particulate matter decreases 47%. The net result is a much cleaner fuel that not only combats global warming but is significantly less toxic to people as well.
  • 10,000,000 lbs of waste diverted from landfills per plant, per year - Converting waste grease into biodiesel not only prevents it from degrading into CO2 and methane, it also saves space in landfills. This in turn reduces the amount of leachate generated by landfills and helps protect our groundwater supply while simultaneously removing a potent smelling contaminant.
  • Bypass the food to fuel and “Indirect Land Use” arguments - One of the biggest complaints against the biofuels industry is that they increase food prices by forcing a limited supply of crops to sustain both the food industry and the biofuels industry. When farmers plant more crops to relieve the demand pressure, they often do so on land that previously harbored forests or other natural carbon sinks. This “Indirect Land Use” means that while conventional biodiesel may reduce CO2 emissions when burned, it does so at the expense of natural carbon sinks. BioFuelBox sidesteps both of these arguments. Oil is used for food first, then fuel. This not only prevents food price increases, it prevents the environmental damage caused by farming expansion.

Biodiesel made from waste FOG (fats, oils and greases) yields 7 times more energy than what goes into manufacturing it. BioFuelBox’s waste-derived fuel has double the net energy ratio than traditional soy-derived biodiesel.
